THE BROKKE FAMILY
The family dates back to the late 1600s, and the oldest known in the family is Tarjei Torsson Nomeland. He had a son, Eivind Tarjeisson Nomeland, who was born in 1752 in Nomeland in Aust-Agder. The family lived in Setesdalen and moved little, only from farm to farm. They lived in Uppstad and Besteland before coming to Rysstad in Setesdal and the farm Lunden in Brokke. Niklos Tarjeisson Besteland had bought this farm and the whole family moved there. The next generation took the name Brokke which is used as a family name today.
THE FAMILY FROM MELØY
The family actually came from both Fauske and Skogsholmen outside Dønna. It was my great-grandfather Anders Andreas Angell Johnsen who was born on Skogsholmen who came to Meløy. He had bought the farm Engevik in 1886, and they moved to this farm. They had 11 children, and the daughter Emilie married Joakim Bang Jensen who was from Skjerstad in Nordland. They had 6 children, and he ran the farm for as long as possible. He became a widower in 1962, but lived on the farm almost until his death in 1989, 95 years old. Today, the farm is still owned by the family, but the operation is left to a relative.
